Seek solutions for the road accidents involving Tanzanian drivers in Rwanda.

On  may 30, 2024 , Mr. Mosses Issa from the TAT secretariat attended a meeting organized by LATRA.

LATRA convened this meeting with stakeholders to address and seek solutions for the ROAD ACCIDENTS INVOLVING TANZANIAN DRIVERS IN RWANDA.

Following complaints from the Rwandan government regarding Tanzanian truck drivers causing accidents, it was noted that between September 2023 up to March 2024, these accidents resulted in the deaths of 18 Rwandans and one Tanzanian driver.The primary causes of these accidents were identified as driver negligence and alcohol consumption.

In collaboration with various stakeholders, LATRA has ewstablished resolutions to address this issue:

• Local Vehicles will be required to join associtions, as they have been identified as a significant challenge.
• Essential drivers must be registered with LATRA and provided with an identification system (I - button)
• Educating drivers in both Tanzania and Rwanda on proper road usage.
• Installing Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) on Vehicles to monitor them more effectively.
